3D renderings and walkthroughs in Costa Rica: condos, villas and tourism

By Facundo Campo · · 5 min read

In short: In Costa Rica the landscape is the product, and during pre-construction it's the hardest thing to show. Renderings and a 3D walkthrough of the project in its real surroundings, in morning, afternoon and evening light, let buyers abroad see what they're actually buying.

3D renderings and walkthroughs in Costa Rica: condos, villas and tourism · Recorrido 3D

3D renderings and walkthroughs help developers in Costa Rica sell condos, beach villas and tourism projects before they're built, by showing them in their real landscape: the valley view, the beach, the jungle around the pool. The buyer opens a link from wherever they live and walks through the villa at sunrise, in the afternoon and at night. I make them remotely from Buenos Aires, in English and Spanish.

In Costa Rica, you sell the landscape

Few markets depend on their surroundings as much as Costa Rica. A condo in Escazú sells on its view of the Central Valley. A villa in Guanacaste sells on the beach and the sunset. A project in Santa Teresa or Nosara sells on being wrapped in jungle while staying close to the sea.

The problem is that during pre-construction, that landscape is almost impossible to show. The lot might be a cattle pasture, an overgrown hillside or a plot with trees that will be kept. The buyer who visits sees dirt. The one who looks at a brochure sees a facade against a generic sky. Neither sees what they're buying.

Showing the finished project in its real setting, with the actual topography and vegetation, and without inventing views it won't have, lets you sell the landscape honestly. That protects the buyer and the developer, who avoids complaints at handover. See facade and exterior renderings.

Three kinds of project, three buyers

Central Valley condominiums

In Escazú, Santa Ana, Curridabat or Heredia, high-rise and low-rise condominiums sell to Costa Rican families and professionals, and to foreigners who live and work in the country. Buyers look at security, shared areas, pool, gym and how close schools and offices are. They want to see the apartment or house furnished and the amenities finished. See amenity renderings.

Villas and beach houses

In Guanacaste, in areas like Tamarindo, Playas del Coco or the Nicoya Peninsula, and along the Central Pacific, you find villas with private pools and low-rise condominiums. Many buyers come from the United States, Canada or Europe, and some plan to use the villa a few weeks a year and rent it out the rest. What they need to see is outdoor living: the terrace, the pool, the open kitchen, the rancho (the open-sided thatched or roofed shelter typical of the region).

Tourism projects

Boutique hotels, eco-lodges, villa developments with services. Here the material does double duty: attracting investors or unit buyers now, and showing the place to future guests later. See renderings for hotels and condo-hotels and selling cabins and tourism complexes.

Tropical light changes everything

In Costa Rica the sun comes up strong and early, and afternoons turn cloudy or full of color depending on the season and the region. Buyers want to know whether the terrace gets afternoon shade, whether the pool gets sun, what the villa looks like lit up at night among the trees.

Seeing the same space in morning, afternoon and evening light answers those questions. The house demo, an unofficial demo based on the Americana 35.64 model by Viviendas Roca, shows how it works: the floor plan rises into the house, which you explore by scrolling at three times of day. More in 3D walkthroughs by day and by night.

What the developer gets

  • Photorealistic images of the project in its setting, the interiors and the amenities, for the website, social media, listing portals and investor presentations.
  • A 3D walkthrough of each villa or apartment type, opened from a link on the phone, with nothing to install.
  • A view of the whole development with each unit's availability, as in the Maconda XXIV building demo, an unofficial working demo based on a building in Quilmes, Argentina, marketed by Otamendi Propiedades.

One walkthrough per unit type covers every unit where it repeats. A condominium with 3 villa models needs 3 walkthroughs, however many villas it has.

Selling to people who don't live in Costa Rica

For a foreign buyer, trust is the first hurdle. They're buying in another country, under other rules, from far away. Clear material that matches what will be delivered helps build that trust before the first call. The rules for buying in coastal zones or renting by the season have their own particulars, so buyers should check them with a local professional.

What the walkthrough does solve is the distance: the buyer sees their villa, shows it to family and talks it through with the broker on a video call, both looking at the same unit. See selling to foreign buyers and presentations for investors.

How we work remotely

I work from Buenos Aires on Argentina time (UTC−3), three hours ahead of Costa Rica, in English or Spanish with the developer, the broker or the partners. From your side:

  1. You send the plans, the location, photos of the site and the finishes, plus who you're selling to.
  2. We meet on a video call to decide which models, amenities, images and views you need.
  3. You review progress by link and send changes by WhatsApp or email.
  4. You get the walkthrough as a link for your website, WhatsApp and email, plus images for listings, social media and investor decks.

Nobody needs to travel. More in working with a remote rendering studio.

Frequently asked questions

Can the project be shown in its real natural setting?

Yes, and that's what I recommend. I start from the location, the topography and photos of the site to show the project with its landscape, without inventing views.

Does it work for tourism projects, not just residential?

Yes. The same material helps sell units or attract investors and, later on, show the project to guests.

Do you work in English?

Yes. I can run the project in English or Spanish with the developer, the broker or the partners.

How much does it cost?

It's quoted per project, based on models, amenities and images. See how much a rendering costs.
